Pottery Barn Kids Review

Small Pottery Barn Kids Backpack

I have been nagging the internet for useable/understandable feedback on the difference between a small and large size backpack from Pottery Barn Kids (PBK) for a while now. Even the YouTube reviews weren’t helpful. So, if you’re that parent with a 3y/o that needs to carry his PECS book wherever he goes so he can communicate or participates in a PPCD and needs a backpack big enough for a three-ring binder during the school year – read on.

The hunt was on for a durable backpack D could use at school AND extracurricular activities.  I had heard good things about the quality of PBK products and felt it was worth the splurge.  Here is my honest review.

I should preface this by saying D is 44″ tall and 52 lbs at 3 years old.

On the outside it is well put together and I’m happy with the quality. It’s bigger than the Skip Hop bags that are common these days.

D’s small PECS book fits nicely inside, no issues closing or opening at all still plenty of room for a change of clothes, diapers and wipes.

The red binder is what was issued to D at PPCD for his daily sheets and this is also how his teacher sends flyers home.

This is what that red binder looks like inside.

Needless to say I had to purchase another backpack for PPCD. 😒

  1. Awe, sorry the backpack didn’t work out. Which size did you purchase?
Once they start preschool or be it daycare and the need to have a folder or binder inside, the ‘Large’ size pack back is what you need to buy. It’s the only size that will nicely fit the folders / binders.
I’ve been purchasing Pottery Barn Kids pack packs for a few years now. I especially love their durability, my boys have even used one back pack two years in a row – still in great shape. This year however with one being into Star Wars, new backpacks for them it was. Thankfully Pottery Barn Kids does carry Star Wars and he was able to get one of those. It’s one of the few things I splurge on for back to school each year, I also look at their ‘sale’ selections, I’ve saved money by buying there too. It’s almost half the price! 😊🙏🏽

    1. I purchased the Small size, it will do for swim lessons and such for now but next year we’re definitely going with the Large. They are definitely much better quality than the Target or Kohl’s selection! (Nothing against Target or Kohl’s – Lord knows I spend a ton of money at Target every month 😝).

      1. Yes, their size Small is just the size of the Skip Hop backpacks, they’re not big enough for a folder. It’ll be great for swim lessons! Also, again, if you go to the Pottery Barn Kids website in the ‘sales’ section, I was able to snag the kids pencil cases each for $5! Got blue with clear covers for my two boys and pink with glitter with clear cover for my two girls. Hey, if you can save somewhere, anywhere, let me know! 😊🙏🏽
Haha! I love me some Target! My 4 year already knows what we order at the Starbucks as a little Target treat, a caramel Frappuccino, with a little bit of coffee – God knows these kids don’t need sugar, so good!
